Pioneering a New Paradigm in Cancer Care and Wellness

Pioneering a New Paradigm in Cancer Care and Wellness

The Ellison Clinic is proud to now be a part of Providence Saint John’s Health Center (PSJ). For over 75 years, PSJ has provided the Los Angeles community an amazing array of medical specialties and sub-specialties. The Ellison Clinic providers hold faculty positions at USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center, one of only 51 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. We collaborate with both USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center and Saint John’s Cancer Institute scientists and clinicians to offer clinical trial participation to our patients in appropriate circumstances, and are actively continuing and expanding our own research programs. The dynamic collaboration between our medical and research personnel at the Ellison Institute and PSJ and USC enhances our ability to conduct scientifically rigorous clinical studies and ensures that our research always centers on patient benefit. Our new facility includes an adjacent wellness center focused on helping each of us live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives through the prevention and early detection of disease.

The professional staff of the oncology & wellness clinic is committed to delivering the highest quality of care by leveraging the technologies and tools available today to design and deliver data-driven, personalized treatment approaches for every individual. Our institute will be the first organization of its kind to vertically integrate, under one roof, the interdisciplinary study and treatment of cancer into an adaptive feedback system to improve patient outcomes and fundamentally enhance cancer diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.

Health Tips

Wear Sunscreen
Vaccination Records
Annual
Flu Shots
Breast Cancer Screening
Wear sunscreen everyday, especially on your face, to prevent various conditions such as sunburns, wrinkles, and skin cancer. Sunscreen can help protect our skin from the harsh UV rays from the sun. A sunscreen with at least SPF 30 is recommended for people of all ages, from babies to the elderly. Suggested places to apply sunscreen are face, ears, neck, arms, legs, and chest area. When wearing a bathing suit, be sure to apply sunscreen on the back, upper legs, upper arms, chest and abdomen as well. For more information click here.
Keep records of your vaccination history! Keeping personal copies of your vaccination history is very helpful, especially during disease outbreaks. If you don’t already have a copy, ask your doctor for a copy and put it somewhere safe, or somewhere in the Cloud. Knowing your vaccination history also helps remind you when you are due for boosters, or that you need to receive another vaccine. For more information, click here.

Roasted Salmon with Orange-Ginger Relish
Ingredients

Salmon:
4 (4- to 6 ounce) skin-on wild-caught salmon fillets, 1 inch thick
1 teaspoon cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil
Salt and pepper

Relish:
4 tangerines, rind and pith removed and segments cut into 1/2 inch pieces (1 cup)
1 scallion, sliced thin
2 teaspoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
Salt and pepper
Directions

For the relish:
Place tangerines in fine-mesh strainer set over medium bowl and drain for 15 minutes.

Pour off all but 1 tablespoon tangerine juice from bowl. Whisk in scallion, lemon juice, oil, and ginger.

Stir in tangerines and season with salt and
pepper to taste.

For the salmon:
Adjust oven rack to lowest position, place aluminum foil-lined rimmed baking sheet on rack, and heat oven to 500 F.

Pat salmon dry
with paper towels, rub with oil, and season with salt and pepper. Score the back of each piece on the skin side several times, trying not to cut into the flesh.

Once oven reaches 500 F, reduce oven temperature to 275 F. Remove sheet from oven and carefully place salmon, skin-side down, on hot sheet.

Roast until center is still translucent when checked with tip of paring knife and registers 120 F (for medium-rare), 4 to 6 minutes.

Slide fish spatula along underside of fillets and transfer to individual plates or serving platter, leaving skin behind; discard skin.

Top with relish and serve.
