Roopali Malhotra is the Deputy General Counsel at the Ellison Institute. Her past experience includes advising prestigious research-based institutions of higher education as counsel, corporate secretary, and administrator. She served for more than seven years as the Senior Advisor and Chief of Staff to the Vice President at the University of Southern California, working with Trustees, senior-level administration, and students on issues related to compliance, misconduct, and internal investigations, in addition to policies, crisis, and communications. Prior, she served as Assistant University Counsel at the University of Illinois, managing transactions related to publicly and privately-funded research projects, real estate & construction, and entertainment & athletics, in addition to advising the Board and Faculty Senate on issues related to the state’s sunshine and ethics laws.

Her philanthropic interests include supporting the arts and education. She serves as a Trustee for the Alliance Public-Charter School Foundation, an organization committed to delivering high-quality education to underrepresented communities in south and east Los Angeles, and previously served on the Board of Directors for the Public Art League, and organization dedicated to the promotion of art and sculpture in public spaces in central Illinois.

She received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Law, a Masters in Bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and a Bachelors in Life Science from Pennsylvania State University College of Science.
